Studio, One-Bedroom or Den Layout: Which Georgetown Apartment Fits You?

The right layout is the one that fits how you live day to day. The price difference between a studio and a one-bedroom can be significant, so it is worth thinking about what you will actually use.

Studio

A studio is one open room with a kitchen and bath. It works well if you are out most of the day and want the lowest rent in a good location. Look for a layout with a defined sleeping area, good closet space and enough wall to place a bed and a couch without crowding the door.

One-bedroom

A one-bedroom gives you a door between where you sleep and where you work or entertain. If you work from home, host often or share the apartment with a partner, the extra privacy is usually worth it.

One-bedroom with a den

A den is a flex room, often with a barn door or similar partition. It can be a home office, a guest space, a walk-in closet or, for some roommates, a second place to sleep. It is not a full second bedroom, so ask to see the plan and the dimensions before you decide. Whether it works comes down to size, light and how you plan to use it.

Two-bedroom

A two-bedroom makes sense when two people want private bedrooms and a shared living room. Splitting the rent can bring the per-person cost close to a one-bedroom. We cover that in how to split the rent with a roommate.

Questions to ask before you choose

  • Where will my desk go, and will I be working there for hours?
  • How will guests sleep, if I host?
  • Do I have a lot of belongings, or do I need storage?
  • What is the total monthly cost with parking and fees?
